National Volunteer Award 2024

The National Volunteer Award is awarded to an individual volunteer who has contributed in any field, such as social, humanitarian, health, ecological, cultural, education, sports, etc. The voluntary work must have had a positive contribution towards a particular field and should ideally have served as an inspiration to others.

The Malta Council for the Voluntary Sector (MCVS) is once more launching the National Volunteer Award 2024. The Award was officially launched for the first time in 2011. The National Volunteer Award is supported by the Ministry for Inclusion, Voluntary Organisations and Consumer Affairs.

 

The aim of the National Volunteer Award is to give broad recognition to the service done by the volunteers and Voluntary Organisations within the community, create awareness of the exemplary values displayed by the volunteers and organisations with the goal of locating role models for youth and wider society; and to recognize the important contributions made in various fields.

 

The National Volunteer Award is awarded to an individual volunteer who has contributed in any field, such as social, humanitarian, health, ecological, cultural, education, sports, etc.  The voluntary work must have had a positive contribution towards a particular field and should ideally have served as an inspiration to others.

 

This year the award is complimented by another five other awards, three of which are the Youth Volunteer Award, the Volunteer Organisation Award the Corporate Volunteering Award. Another award which has been added this year, sponsored by the Commissioner for Voluntary Organisations is the  Victor Calvagna Children Volunteer Award. The other award to be presented this year is the Special Award for Voluntary Service.

 

The Awards for which individuals and voluntary organisations may nominate accordingly are:

 

·         The National Youth Volunteer Award which is awarded to a Volunteer between the age of 16 and 30 years having the same aims as the National Volunteer Award and the main scope to promote volunteering amongst young people.


·         The Volunteer Organisation Award which is awarded to a Voluntary Organisation who has been outstanding in the sector in which it operates, being both innovative in its approach and services within the community as well as in its way of recruiting and supporting volunteers. 


·         The Corporate Volunteering Award which is awarded to that Company or Organisation coming from the Private Sector which has given tangible support to the Voluntary Sector, both by direct support as well as by supporting and facilitating its employees to volunteer.


·         The  Victor Calvagna Children Volunteer Award which is awarded to a Volunteer between the age of 10 and 15 years having the same aims as the National Volunteer Award and the main scope to promote volunteering amongst children.


The Special Award for Voluntary Service is given directly by the Malta Council for the Voluntary Sector to individuals a a lifetime award for outstanding service within the voluntary Sector.


The Special Award for Project of the Year is given directly by the Malta Council for the Voluntary Sector to outstanding projects implemented by VOs in the community.


The Call for Application for the awards shall be open as of the 18th September 2024 and shall close on the 18th October 2024. The award ceremony shall be held on the 5th December 2024, in relation to the International Volunteer Day held on the 5th December under the United Nations.
